Go Brazilian!

Have you ever wanted to try out different types of body waxing but been to shy to ask what the difference is between a Playboy and a Brazilian. It all can seem a bit intimidating so let us break it down for you!

The 2 most popular waxing services are the Bikini wax and the Brazillian wax.

The Bikini basically removes any visible hair from your underwear/bikini line outwards.  While there are a lot of names or styles for bikini waxes, most people determine for themselves how much hair they want left or removed.  You don't need to be locked into any one kind of bikini wax, just go with you own personal preference.

Let me start by explaining that all salons may do their brazillian waxes differently but to make it less confusing I will only explain how we perform this service at Shear Escape.  It can be hard to know what you are going to get when booking for the first time so lets get right to it, we wax the whole area, front to back, side to side and everything in between when doing a Brazillian.

Alot of the fear about Brazillian waxing comes from these two myths...

1: IT IS GOING TO BE PAINFUL

Totally false, while it may be a little uncomfortable during the second the hair is removed, the feeling stops immediately.  I specialize in Brazillians so relax, you are in good hands.  Plus all of our clients agree it is worth it to not have to shave anymore!

2: IT WILL BE AWKWARD

Also false!!  At Shear Escape we are always professional and keep in mind that what might seem personal to you is part of our daily job for us!  We do our best to maintain your privacy and make you as comfortable as possible.  And don't worry, you don't have to get into any weird positions, there are many different techniques we use to remove all the hair during your service with your comfort in mind.

Now here are some important points to remember before your waxing service:

-Do not tan before your appointment.

-Your hair needs to be at least 1/4 inch long which is about 7-10 days growth for most women.  Hair shorter than this is more difficult to remove.

-You should try to avoid booking your appointment during your period because you tend to be more sensitive during that time of the month.

-Try to avoid wearing extremely tight pants, normal to loose is recommended.  You also don't have to wear older underwear, we provide disposable underwear for you comfort and cleanliness.

-Do not shave in between waxing services.  Shaving causes hair to grow in more blunt and thicker which can cause ingrown hairs.

One more important piece of information to let our clients know is our Sanitary measures we take at the salon.  We never use the same applicator twice, this avoids cross contamination.  We ALWAYS wear gloves and use sanitary bed coverings.  Also, we use hospital grade sanitation products on all our instruments including tweezers.

So in conclusion with spring right around the corner, please come in and see me for all your waxing needs!  I can answer any questions and personalize your service to suit your preferences!

Book online at www.shearescape.ca or call 306-949-0599

Shear Escape Salon & Spa also has a fantastic Loyalty program that allows you to earn points towards services whenever you refer a friend or family member! Ask you service provider or our Support staff for more details.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Lorena

A new year, new you?

A new year, new you?

You’re going to get in shape, eat right, drink more water, and eat less junk food. We've all heard it before. But did you know that what you put in your body will not only benefit your health but your skin, nails and hair as well? In order to keep our body, skin and hair strong, soft and shiny we need to keep ourselves energized, hydrated and moisturized.

While it may be hard for some of us to get to the gym or get outside during these winter months there are plenty of resources for activities that can be done around the house for exercise. When it comes to our hair, everybody's needs are different. If you color your hair professionally, get it trimmed regularly by your stylist and only use professional quality salon products on your hair, awesome! However there are many times I hear that my clients were in an emergency situation and had to grab a box of color from the drugstore, or had a "friend" cut their hair, or they just don't feel they can afford professional products. By not using professional products on your hair, you’re actually washing your color down the drain and drying the crap out of your hair! It only makes sense when you are investing $100-$200 on your color to spend the extra $15 for a bottle of color treated shampoo, your wallet will thank you down the road when your color lasts far longer.

Some of you are probably thinking, it's soap...it cleans right? Well, yes! But, store bought shampoos have more water, sulfates, and fillers with less vitamins, oils, and minerals that are meant to keep your hair healthy, in other words, more of the bad and less of the good! The sulfates in these shampoos have a much larger molecule structure which in turn lathers the hair great but is a harsh irritant to the skin and eyes. I've heard this question many years ago and I've never forgotten it, so I'll ask you. Why would you want to wash your hair with something that you could wash your car with? Anywho, that’s a whole other can of worms that I could go on for hours about.

Getting back on topic, I want to talk about foods we put into our bodies. Here are some top "super" foods that in turn will make our skin and hair stronger and healthier. They are: eggs, spinach, sweet potatoes, salmon, blueberries, walnuts, Greek yogurt, poultry and lentils. All these foods contain antioxidants which are great to prevent premature aging, omega 3 fats keep everything moisturized, Iron that is especially important, because it helps cells carry oxygen to the hair follicles, and too little Iron (anemia) is a major cause of hair loss.

Whatever your New Year resolution may be, I hope that this information has helped you think about some ways to get your hair and body healthier this year. Starting with what you are putting into it and how to maintain it!

Sincerely,

April C.

Blowout Mania!

Blowout Mania!

Hey there, do you experience the woes of unruly, frizzy hair??  We have a cure for your styling challenges….The Blowout!  Blowouts are one of the fastest growing trends in the industry, Why…because Blowout’s leave your hair looking luxurious and b-e-a-u-tiful.

So what are we offering? Well we have a special offer on Blowouts for $25/service. You will receive a punch card and after 5 blow-dries you get the 6th free!  They last longer than straightening or curling your hair as they temporarily change the structure of your hair, the bond is broken and reset every time you wet and wash your hair. Why is this important? It means you can get a couple of days out of your blow-dry and it actually lasts! For this reason your hair holds shape, does not require extreme heat from a flat iron or curling wand and you have control in places you would never have thought possible. A style that lasts for days, doesn’t damage the hair and you don’t have to do it yourself, what more could you want?

So why can’t you do this at home? You unfortunately aren’t able to achieve the right angles, the right amount of tension, know the right brush size and brush for the desired look. Never mind the repetitive motion required to smooth the cuticle to keep your hair smooth and frizz free. There are several different types of blowouts. From straight, curly, flick, volume or a sausage (or what you Canadians call a round brush set for short hair). There isn’t any look with a round brush we can’t achieve. Or you can switch it up and mix blowouts! Like the Mai Tai which are messy, looser curls. You will walk out with hair that would give a Victoria’s Secret model a run for her money. Or if you are someone who thinks BIG volume, BIG curls, BIG hair a Southern Comfort may be more your style.

Blowouts are not a stand alone, like a manicure or pedicure but a weekly treat which becomes an addiction. It’s the perfect style fix for the week at work, party or any event. So why not call in today and take advantage of our Blowout Offer and be pampered and relaxed every week.  Looking forward to meeting and treating you!

Sincerely,

Orla

Perfecting your Blowout

The key to a beautiful blowout starts with using the right products.  One of my favorites is Unite!  The reason I like it so much is because it is paraben free, it smells amazing because it is scented with essential oils, and mostly because it works and it's good for your hair!!

To achieve the perfect blowout follow these simple steps...

- Start with Unite Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner

- Towel dry hair and apply a small amount of Unite Blow and Set Lotion and comb through from roots to ends

- Spray Unite Expanda Volume Root Energizer at the roots

- Rough dry with blow dryer to remove some moisture then section hair and finish blow drying with a round brush

- Apply Unite Expanda Dust Volumizing Powder at the root and backcomb the hair at the crown

- Finish with GO365 Hairspray 3 in 1 for soft, medium, or strong hold

And there you go...the perfect blowout!!

In 2011 the team at Shear Escape was able to partner up with the YWCA of Regina and offer our salon space for their program called Girlspace.  The first Friday of every month we hosted 40-50 young ladies between the ages of 12-16.  Over the months they were mentored on many important topics for part of each session such as Self Expression through journal writing, Self Esteem, Body Image in the media, Girls Rights, Healthy Relationships, Decision Making and Peer Pressure, Planned Parenthood, Healthy Lifestyles and Budgeting.

For the other half of each session the team at Shear Escape were able to educate them on skin care, make-up, hairstyling techniques and nail art.  We were also fortunate enough to have Dean Renwick come by and guide them on how to create their own personal style.
At the end of the 10 months we celebrated our Salon Anniversary with a fundraiser at Applause DInner Theater and had the lovely young ladies volunteer their time.  They modelled in a fashion show as part of the evenings events and really shined!  From our fundraiser we were able to donate over $8000 towards purchasing a new Paratransit bus at Wascana Rehabilitation Center.  It was such a great opportunity for the next generation to experience the importance of giving back to their community as well as for us to learn so much from them in return!

At Shear Escape we love to make people look and feel good! We also love to give back to the community! This year, members of our staff will be participating in the Regina Humane Society's 22nd Annual Dog Jog to help raise funds for the care, education and protection of animals.
Rain or shine, join us for a fun filled afternoon to help support the Regina Humane Society and the thousands of animals that pass through the Shelter doors each year. If you are unable to attend we are also taking donations at the salon to help support the humane society.

Do you hate getting your picture taken? For many people the pressure of picking the right outfit or the stress of a bad hair day deters them from pursuing portraits or family pictures.

That’s what makes these packages so AH-mazing! Shear Escape is excited to team up with Candace at Pink Portrait Photography. We have three exciting packages to choose from for family, couples and personal photo sessions.

It's the most wonderful time of the year....but not for your hair!

Tips on how to keep your locks looking fresh!

Cut down using your blow dryer/straightener/curling iron etc. Let your hair air dry and try a braid to unruly hair. Using these products is drying out your hair of it's essentials oils! If you must use hot tools apply a thermal protecting spray! Redken spray starch 15 is the best!

Just like your skin, your hair needs protection from the sun. If you are obsessed with the sun then make sure to apply something like a UV hair protection spray. This will keep your hair color from fading if you color your hair.
